Maxwell was a Texas based bounty hunter before taking a nice easy job as a security guard on the Riverboat "the Witches' Broom" watching the gamblers and cargo on the dangerous waters of the Mississippi river. A job made not so easy by the forces of darkness and a strange book that dripped blood.

July 1876 events include an attack by devil bats on the open river and the mysterious book left behind by a dying Huckster... having touched accidentally the blood, he began a change, becoming more night oriented as one symptom.... which ended badly for McGregor as Capt. Ian Lindstrom's “Gabriel's Fire” [really a Soul Blast] blew him away.
